And now the final curtain has drawn on the phenomenon that was "Friends"...very
little has been said about one aspect of the show: the theme song "I'll Be There
For You" by the Rembrandts was a major charting single (not sure *exactly* how
high it got, but it was up there)...which means that if TeeVee Toons ever puts
out a ninth volume, they're going to have to include it with whatever other
songs they were too early to get on previous editions (guessed wrong with "The
Brothers Grunt", I think)....
So now the list part...what other TV show theme songs have become genuinely
successful as singles in their own right?...we're looking for things you might
have heard on the radio in the appropriate era without ever thinking "hey,
that's a TV song"...starting things off:
"The Ballad of Davey Crockett"
"Batman"
"Hawaii Five-O"
"Getting Together" (show wasn't a hit but the song did okay)
"Rockford Files"
"His Eye Is On The Sparrow" (Baretta)
"Welcome Back" (Welcome Back, Kotter)
"Believe It Or Not" (Greatest American Hero)
"How Do You Talk To An Angel?" (The Heights; actually hit #1)
Everybody join in!...r
